Call for Sponsorship

The BPViz  Workshop was borne out of an understanding of the importance of the role of visualization in a world that is increasingly data driven, a keen awareness of the lack of representation of women and underrepresented groups in the field and the absence of mentorship for persons with interest in data visualization but lacking an introduction to the visualization community. BPViz was designed to build a network of persons with visualization backgrounds and expertise both varied and diverse that welcomes all interests in visualization from novice to expert with interests in broadening participation and inclusion in data visualization.

BPViz18 is the third workshop that focuses on broadening participation in visualization from all aspects of scholarship and interests. The workshop consists of a hands-on visualization exercises,  insightful dialog with invited speakers, presentations of scholarly work-in-progress  in visualization from participants followed by additional planed events  designed to motivate continued participation in data visualization.  See Workshop Details  page.
To facilitate sustained engagement, participants will gain hands on experience with current visualization tools, one-on-one interaction with visualization  experts, learn about recent research in visualization, get feedback on their own works-in-progress, and engage in mentoring and networking activities with researchers and practitioners in data visualization.

The 1st CRA-W/NSF Broadening Participation in Visualization Workshop started in 2014. It was and continues to be The Visualization Workshop that actively engages participants in the process of visualizing data while builiding collaboarative networks and relationships. Participants complete the workshop with more knowledge of how to apply data visualization tools, methods and techniques in their daily activities.  BPViz, a gentle introduction to data visualization encourages engagement and involvement with all persons with an interest in data visualization across all disciplines.
